Ena Prskalo
Sociology Ph.D. Candidate
Instructor

Ena earned her B.A. and M.A. in Sociology with a concentration in Criminology from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Ena has broadly explored research topics relating to deviancy, online and offline subcultures, historical sociology, and mechanisms of “othering.” Her most recent work focuses on international hate groups and hate crimes, specifically in the Balkans. She examines incidents of vandalism and the desecration of sacred spaces, such as cemeteries and places of worship, through the lens of symbolic violence and cultural criminology. Her work has appeared in Explorations, Journal of Historical Sociology, and International Criminology. When Ena is not busy devoting attention to understudied areas in criminology, she takes an applied approach to the field by organizing events such as symposiums and art exhibits that showcase the stories and experiences of the populations she has worked with.
